Living Building Challenge™ (LBC)
Bringing Buildings in Balance with Nature
Epsten Group is a Living Building Challenge (LBC) consulting firm. Our LBC services help building owners and facility managers further implement a tool that not only defines the most advanced measure of sustainability in the built environment possible today, but also acts to rapidly diminish the gap between current limits and the end-game positive solutions they seek.
Known as a green building rating system, advocacy tool, and philosophy, the Living Building Challenge is made up of seven performance categories known as Petals: Place, Water, Energy, Health and Happiness, Materials, Equity, and Beauty. The certification program applies to all types and sizes of buildings, both new construction and existing structures.
We are qualified to assist our clients in completing LBC’s seven performance categories called Petals. Petals are subdivided into a total of twenty Imperatives, each of which focuses on a specific sphere of influence. With our proven expertise in high-performance building architecture and consulting, we strive to make it easy for our clients to adopt sustainable building goals and achieve functional, affordable and attractive solutions.
Epsten Group’s involvement includes:
- JUST™ Label for Transparent Operations Practice: A Living Building Challenge certification requires at least one project team member to hold this label. We are one of the first companies in the Southeast United States to achieve this label. The JUST program, spearheaded by the International Living Future Institute™, is a voluntary disclosure program and tool for all types and sizes of organizations.
- Facilitators of the Atlanta Living Building Challenge Collaborative (LBCC): These collaboratives are community-based, in-person groups of Living Building Challenge ambassadors that come together for informal learning experiences and to advance community transformation. Collaborative members create the local conditions that support development of living buildings, landscapes and neighborhoods, and implement initiatives on advocacy and community engagement, educational events, design competitions, regulatory reform, project incubation and support, and outreach to community stakeholders.
