So, you want to capture a domain that best fits your new company? Maybe the domain is similar to your company and you need to ensure it falls into the right hands. Further, the domain in the 5-day deletion phase has a high bid and you later find that the domain has a huge backlink setup (backlink history means you can cash in on traffic). These are just some of the reasons for backordering deleting domains. To learn more and get a good idea on how to backorder domains, read this backorder domain thread.
My personal experience has been with Enom coming up first for snatching names. One note to remember, look into who the preferred vendor is for a registrar, for example Network Solutions vendor is SnapNames.
You MUST be on top of your game. Domains are compared to the next investment strategy along side stock and real estate. Again, check the backlink history on expiring domains, you may be surprised how powerful an existing traffic source can produce instant profits. Of course, this is a broad statement and requires a whole other article or book!
Update: I have successfully backordered a domain through Pool.com, however I was up against another person so far. The closing for bids is in the next several days and at this time I won’t submit a higher bid until the last 3 minutes.
Why is the last 3 minutes important? Well, for starters the last 3 minutes can buy you the high bid and if the other party isn’t watching, they will lose out unless they’re watching the clock also. If so, and if an updated bid is submitted in the last 2 minutes, the auction will extend about 7 minutes. These are loose details, yet very important when obtaining the domain you want. It could be that other parties may have bid on the domain and have yet to update their bid; they also may wait till the last few minutes. Wow, this is very exciting, kind of similar to ebay auctions!
